New Pastor Announced for St. Martin's

The Central and Southern Province has appointed Fr. Anthony Borrow, S.J. as the new pastor of St. Martin de Porres Parish, replacing Fr. Brian, who became the new Jesuit superior as of April 2nd.  Fr. Borrow is due to arrive in Belize on June 28th.

Originally from Florida (USA), Fr. Borrow has been the director and community superior of Montserrat Jesuit Retreat House in Dallas, TX (USA) for the last five years.  While he loves retreat work and enjoyed building up Montserrat, Fr. Borrow has a heart for being with the people.

At 49, Fr. Borrow brings a variety of life and work experiences with him.  He is fluent in Spanish and is a self-taught tech guru.

While Fr. Brian is sad to be leaving Martin's, he knows that the parish is in good hands.  "Anthony is a great guy.  Very laid back, but an insightful leader," says Fr. Brian, "Parishioners will fall in love with him, and he will fall in love with them."

St. Martin's Parish has undergone several leadership transitions in the last few years, beginning when Fr. Matt moved to Punta Gorda to be the pastor of St. Peter Claver Parish.  Fr. Brian took his place on an interim basis, until a new pastor could be identified.  "Transitions are tough for any community," says Fr. Brian, "but I know the parish will welcome Anthony as warmly as it welcomed me in 2009 and Fr. Matt in 2011.  That's what we're known for."

"Besides," Fr. Brian quipped, "this isn't goodbye.  I'll still be around until you get sick of me!"
